QUESTION FROM GIRI

When I steam in to bowl, I miss the spot where I need to jump from. Because of this, I am missing my line and pace. How can I improve this?

ANSWER

Hey Giri,

This is a very common problem that bowlers have. You need to have a visual guide of your ‘take off’ spot which is where you jump from.

A great trick which you can use is to place the umpire on, in front or just behind your take off spot. So when you are bowling, you’re not attacking the crease - you’re attacking THE UMPIRE (not literally).

You will see many international bowlers adjust where the umpire stands to give them a visual guide of when to take off so they don’t ‘miss their spot’ as you are.

So you need to get in the middle and bowl 12-18 deliveries from your full run up and ask someone to put a mark down on the spot that you take off from. Measure this spot from the back foot line and place the umpire there when you’re playing matches.

I’m sure this will help my friend.

All the best.
