QUESTION FROM HARSH

I’m a left arm bowler who suffered a back injury 8 months ago. I have lost my bowling action completely and can’t bowl at the speed I used to bowl at. What should I do to increase my bowling speed?

ANSWER

Hey Harsh,

Sorry to hear about your injury.

It’s great to hear that you’re back bowling again. Most of the time, it’s a mental block which is stopping a bowler from letting go and bowling at full tilt after an injury. The injury will always be in the back of your mind.

Rebuild your technique through drills and visualisation. Don’t come off your full run straight away. Groove your action and get used to the mechanics of it. I’d then start by bowling lightly and upping the intensity gradually. Once you start to feel comfortable with bowling again, you should start to feel more and more confident.

I hope that helps.

All the best.
