I am a 13 year old girl, how can I increase my run up speed?
You’re 13. Take your time. Run-ups are very personal and sensitive. An increase in 1-3kph in run-speed can throw your balance and timing completely off in the crease. As you get older and fitter, you’ll notice that your stride length and running fluency naturally developing.
Do lots of work on your running mechanics so that your technique is efficient. Do lots of sprint work so you have the speed in the legs. You’ll start to naturally bring an increased intensity into your bowling.
Another thing to consider is drilling your run-up as a sprint with a ball in your hand so you get used to the feeling of running faster with a ball in your hand.
But make sure you don’t try and bowl with an increased run-up speed straight away – you will almost certainly be off-sync and it will feel terrible. Increase the speed SLOWLY and over time.
