Over Bowling, Nutrition & Recovery - Richard Stonier

In this episode, we continue our conversation with Richard Stonier. The Strength & Conditioning coach of Pakistani first class cricket team, Sui Gas. PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars and currently, the Bangladesh National Team. Richard discusses the dietary challenges cricketers in the subcontinent face because of their culture and circumstances. He goes on to explain how the use of “electrolyte salts” can help you overcome cramping and fatigue during long days under the hot sun. He also explains the dangers of over-bowling by using Ahmed Jamal, Pakistani A fast bowler as explain. Richard also goes into detail on different methods which can help you recover and we close the show by speaking about sports supplements, their benefits and how you can avoid testing positive in a drug test.

He grew up playing minor county and premier league cricket before being noticed through the professionalism of his warm up routines; this subsequently led to his involvement as one of the first appointed fitness trainers in Pakistani First Class cricket. Richard is also the strength & conditioning coach of PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars and the National Academy of High Performance, Bangladesh. The Rise of Fitness in The Subcontinent - Richard Stonier

In this episode, we speak to Richard Stonier, Strength & Conditioning coach of Pakistani First Class cricket team, Sui Gas. PSL franchise, Lahore Qalandars and currently, the Bangladesh National Team. Richard describes the challenges he faced whilst working in the subcontinent. He also shares his observation on the generic training philosophy of Pakistani fast bowlers as well as touching on what they can do to improve through physical training. He describes a routine which he calls ‘pre-activation’ which he uses on the evening before or the morning of a game to “fire up the muscles”. We close the show by discussing his experience working with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Salman Irshad in the PSL and his views on their future and potential.

The Challenges You Face When Changing Your Action - Tom Barber

In this episode, we speak to Middlesex fast bowler, Tom Barber, who recently broke the record as the fastest bowler to ever be tracked at the ECB National Performance Centre in Loughborough. Tom talks about the time he got released by Hampshire and how he worked hard to improve before being signed by Middlesex. He goes on to speak about the technical changes he made to his bowling action which helped him use his front side and bowl consistently faster than before. He also discusses the challenges a bowler faces when changing their action and how important it is to trust the process and stay disciplined.

ABOUT TOM BARBER

Tom Barber is an exciting left-arm fast bowler from England. Having come through the age-group system, he was released by Hampshire in 2015. He resorted to playing club and minor county cricket whilst working extremely hard to improve before being signed by Middlesex in 2017. Tom is regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in English cricket and recently broke the record as the fastest bowler to ever be tracked at the ECB National Performance Centre in Loughborough.
